This will cover what empathy is all about and why it is essential in developing social skills.  How can we empathize with others if we are not in touch with our own emotions? We will break this down in a way that is even easy enough for our two-year-olds to understand.

Now that we have identified the emotion, and calmed ourselves down… it is time to manage our emotions appropriately! Many of us do this in our heads naturally - but some of our kids need this broken down for them. This section will focus on teaching our kids to understand the different intensities of every emotion,  how to feel the different emotions in our bodies and how to manage the emotions. 

Once we learn how to identify our emotions,  we then have to learn how to be emotionally appropriate. BUT — we cannot do that until we learn how to calm ourselves down. This module will cover why this can be difficult for some of us,  and different techniques that have been used in the therapy world to keep ourselves calm.

Now that we are calm and level-headed, many children need to learn how to problem-solve.  They are able to understand their hurt feelings and now even able to stay calm and communicate them — but now what? What can they do about a friend who is constantly leaving them out? What can they do about being worried about being called on in class?  What can they do if they are so disappointed about not getting into the “right” Seminary?  The questions are endless. And learning to tools to effectively problem solve will be life-changing.

Understanding Attachment Theory is fundamental in understanding how we relate to the people around us. We will explore the different attachment styles as we begin to become more aware of ourselves and our own relationships.
